Meeting Mirror

Basics

The Meeting Mirror is a an application that allows participants of community meetings (e.g. conferences) to use interactive large screen displays to explore the participants of the meeting. The application is an extension to a Web-based meeting/registration platform - ideally one based on the Cobricks Community Platform Toolkit.

MeetingMirror

The basic idea for the Meeting Mirror was created during the i3 Summer School "Designing for Communities" in Ivrea in 2001, and was extended and implemented in the Applied Informatics and Cooperative Systems Group (M. Koch) at Technischen Universität München in cooperation with the Media Laboratory at University of Art and Design in Helsinki (A. Botero).

The first stage of the Meeting Mirror implements an interactive visualisation of the participant list. The application displays the participants of the meeting with a self-choosen icon and a short user name. By interacting with the large screen users can retrieve more detailed information on a participant (the virtual business card) or search for participants by different attributes. The large screen application is supported with a Web-based registration that provides identity management functionality (possibility to choose which information should be presented on which channel) - alternatively, the identity information can be imported from exiting conference management applications.

A second version of the Meeting Mirror now supports identification of users via RFID tags (in the conference badges) and access to the data using mobile devices.
